Five

The summer of 2008 was eventful.  Ben and I both graduated from Georgetown.  We got married.  We started our careers.  We bought a condo and moved in. 

This summer we’ve been celebrating the five year milestones of all of those occasions.  At the beginning of June, we attended our five-year reunion at Georgetown.  The following weekend, we went to Vermont as a belated five-year anniversary celebration.  Ben and I switched jobs (or, I switched from having a job to being a student) after 4.5 years at our same jobs, so we didn’t quite make it to the five year mark.  We no longer live in our condo, but while we were in town we visited it for the first time to take care of a leak issue and check up on our tenants. 

We had a great time being back in DC for our five-year reunion, although we didn’t end up spending that much time at reunion events.  Apparently I’m the only one from my immediate circle who cares that much about reunions.  Ben is indifferent to them and my six or so best friends from Georgetown opted to skip the reunion.  Ben was originally the class of ’05, took two years off and became the class of ’07, and then decided to do a joint undergrad-grad five-year program and became the class of ’08. I was content to go to the picnic on Saturday and take a nostalgic tour of campus with Ben.

A dynamic Georgetown alum

The following Friday was our anniversary.  Ben was in DC that day, but drove up to New York that afternoon/evening.  There was a torrential rainstorm up and down the East coast.  This extended his drive for a couple hours and made for some unpleasant white knuckle driving, but he made it.  We went out to eat at a Thai restaurant that night, celebrated National Doughnut Day at the Doughnut Plant for dessert, and escaped home before we got too drenched.  We went to the Bronx Zoo and Cloisters the next day.
