Band of the Year: Beirut

My camera batteries died Christmas day of last month. Even though I recharged the batteries within the week, I really haven't used my camera since then. And when I don't take pictures, I typically don't blog. So, that's my blogging excuse for the month, but I will do better.

Almost a year ago today, I discovered Beirut (the band). Beirut easily makes my top three for all time favorite music groups, and I'm nearly ready to put the band above even Sufjan Stevens and Simon & Garfunkel in my rankings.

In honor of this particular music obsession's one year anniversary, I'm posting a sampling of favorite Beirut songs from their albums Gulag Orkestar (May 9, 2006) and The Flying Club Cup (October 9, 2007) as well as EPs Lon Gisland (January 30, 2007) and Elephant Gun (June 25, 2007).
